This is my adventure solo hiking Old Speck Mountain via the Appalachian Trail during the winter. I started at Grafton Notch State Park which is located in Newry, Maine. Old Speck is Maine's third tallest 4,000-footer. Because of the 4pm sunsets in December, I gave myself an early turnaround time and did not make it to the summit on this particular day. (My son and I have previously hiked Old Speck during the summer with high humidity and a lot of bugs.)

Have you seen Acadia National Park's amazing coastline after a snowstorm? I visited the quiet side of Acadia the day after fresh fallen snow and explored Wonderland Trail, Ship Harbor Nature Trail, and the Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse. These are all easy, short hikes in the park - even in winter.
This is my first attempt of a single day Presidential Traverse in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. I summited Madison and Adams and then decided to follow the Appalachian Trail the rest of the way. I started at the Valley Way Trailhead and ended at Crawford Notch. I am currently working on the NH48 with my son however, I told him anything that I summited on this day would not count toward my 48 list. 😉
Video of my solo hike up Sargent Mountain in Acadia National Park after a fresh snowstorm. On this hike I took the Hadlock Brook Trail, Sargent South Ridge Trail, and I came down the Maple Spring Trail. The trail quickly changed from slush to snow to almost white out conditions on top of Sargent Mountain. This route crosses under two of John D. Rockefellar Jr's famous bridges: Water Fall Bridge and Hemlock Bridge.
I hiked the Cadillac South Ridge Trail and the Cadillac North Ridge Trail in Acadia National Park in early December when the Cadillac Mountain Summit Road was closed for the season. I went searching for winter and found it on Cadillac's summit and on the North Ridge Trail.
This single day rim to rim was the hike that started it all for me. I decided on North to South for my first rim to rim, descending North Kaibab Trail and ascending Bright Angel Trail. It was my first time visiting Grand Canyon National Park, and at the time Faber Adventures wasn't a thought in my mind. I planned this for over a year and trained just as long.
I solo hiked across 13 peaks in Acadia National Park traversing from Rt 198 by Somes Sound and ending at the Gorham Mountain parking lot on Ocean Drive. I summited Bald, Parkman, Gilmore, Sargent, Cedar Swamp, Penobscot, South Bubble, North Bubble, Pemetic, Cadillac, Dorr, Champlain, and Gorham Mountains.
What a gorgeous hike above treeline! We hiked the Franconia Ridge to summit Little Haystack, Lincoln, and Lafayette as part of our New Hampshire 48 4,000-footer journey. I can understand why this is ranked as one of the best hikes in NH! We went up Falling Waters Trail, across the Franconia Ridge, then down to the Greenleaf Hut and completed the loop via the Old Bridle Path.
We were ecstatic when we won a permit to hike Angels Landing in Zion National Park. There was some snow and ice, but we really lucked out with the weather for this time of year. This video shows the chain section of the hike after a ranger checks your permit. Footage was shot with a gopro attached to the shoulder strap of my hiking bag.
This video is our complete hike of the Precipice Trail in Acadia National Park. Our daughter has asked us for years to try this hike, and this was finally her day. Footage includes The Eliminator, the boulder field, the caves, and so many iron rungs that go up and around steep drop offs and cliffs! Such a great hike!
This is our journey hiking the South Kaibab Trail for a Rim to River at Grand Canyon National Park. We were lucky to also have a room at Phantom Ranch at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. This was Alfred's first-time hiking into the Grand Canyon.
Full Half Dome hike in Yosemite National Park. Video includes The Mist Trail with Vernal Falls and Nevada Falls. In June 2024 I flew across the country to Yosemite for a solo hike of Half Dome. It was a beautiful day, the waterfalls were flowing strong, but it didn't quite go as I imagined.
